Artist Statement:
Manon Boisvert - BA, DESS
I paint simple objects and life forms. A colourful bird, a textured wall, a rusty old lock, all can cause me to reach for my sketch pad because I see something in a fleeting moment that must be captured, sketched, and painted.
In this process, I am searching for something outside of the day to day. I seek to intensify my appreciation of the sometime, rude realities that surround us. I look for an emotional response, excitement, interest, and curiosity in subject matter that others might walk past and never notice. This allows me to kindle a passion inside me which I hope inspires and surprises others as much as it does me.
Intuition and the artist eye inform my painting while there is detailed pictorial representation in my work. I want to capture the elements of mystery and spirituality that I find in nature and in the apparent harshness often found in the city environment.
From my perspective observing nature’s adaption to the challenges of the urban environment provides solace and meaning to our hectic modern lives. To look at a painting and perhaps understand what has occurred in one’s life having some part of it explained, may grant us peace at that moment.
